Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak sekali lagi menegaskan bahawa negeri Sabah selama-lamanya adalah sebahagian daripada Persekutuan Malaysia.
Untuk itu, beliau berkata rakyat Sabah adalah warganegara Malaysia dan kerajaan akan tetap mempertahankan kemerdekaan, kedaulatan dan keutuhan wilayah Malaysia daripada sebarang pencerobohan.
"Kita tidak akan membenarkan barang seinci pun bumi Malaysia dirampas oleh sesiapa. Inilah komitmen kerajaan yang ada hari ini," katanya ketika membentangkan Laporan Tahunan Program Transformasi Negara di sini, hari ini.
Beliau berkata, insiden keganasan di Lahad Datu, Sabah menjadi semboyan peringatan kepada negara agar tidak sekali-kali mengambil mudah soal keselamatan.
"Keamanan dan kestabilan yang berpanjangan tidak harus menjadi sebab ketumpulan tahap kita berwaspada.

"Tragedi ini telah pun mengorbankan nyawa 10 orang anggota pasukan keselamatan negara. Lapan orang daripada pasukan Polis Diraja Malaysia dan mutakhir dua anggota tentera," katanya.
Perdana menteri berkata pengorbanan pahlawan-pahlawan negara itu bukan kecil dan bukan untuk diperlekeh, sebaliknya hasil pengorbanan mereka sepertimana pada era darurat dan insurgensi membolehkan rakyat Malaysia menikmati kemajuan dan kemakmuran sehingga hari ini.
Sehubungan itu, Najib mengingatkan pihak-pihak tertentu yang cuba untuk memperkecilkan sumbangan anggota keselamatan agar belajar mengenang budi dan berterima kasih atas jasa dan bakti mereka yang telah berjuang demi tanah air tercinta.
"Kenanglah ibu bapa yang meniti hari tua tanpa mereka lagi di sisi, kenangilah isteri-isteri yang menjadi balu serta anak-anak yang kehilangan belai manja bapanya.
"Kepada mereka kita berjanji bahawa negara ini akan sentiasa memuliakan bakti serta pengorbanan itu," katanya. - Bernama
